Graham,
The boss below and to the rear of the thermostat housing, near cylinder #2
works well for a knock sensor. I too had considered the Saab APC system, but
decided to go with J&S Safeguard, an aftermarket programmable knock sensor
system. The knock sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted, which allows you to
compensate for any normal engine noises, such as solid lifter clatter.
Overall I am pleased with the system, and consider it one of the best
modifications I have made to my WX powered Ur Quattro. With a modified CIS injection
system, I can run 20lbs. of boost on street gas. The WX has plenty of
developmental potential and can reliably produce 300+ hp.
