[urq] play in steering rack?

Hey fellas-
is it possible to have play in the steering rack itself?  I seem to be getting that.  But maybe it's possible that is just a slightly loose tie rod or something.  I'm getting a clunk (NOT the infamous Audi strut bearing clunk-those are cured (shhh)) on left turns.  And at a standstill I can slightly turn the wheel and feel the play, like a _very_ minor "pop"
