[urq] Any hi efficiency tail light bulbs around to compensate
for bad wiring?

... this sort of thing should not require a trip to the shop ... more likely
than not it is a grounding problem at the tail lamp assembly. Pull the lamp
holder out and disconnect the electrical plug. Look at the connector pins
and you will probably find them pitted by corrosion. Clean them up as best
you can, but you will probably still find the illumination intermittent. If
you have a newer lamp holder it will have accommodations for slip on
grounding lugs ... if yours do not have these, just find another way to hook
up a direct ground wire to the body of the car and all of the lights on the
panel will get brighter ...
