[urq] 944 intercooler install

Bill,

I've been reading your posts on fans with curiosity.
I have a very different test case for my intercooler
than you do. My test is 10 laps at PIR, not a trip to
the 7-eleven. In laps on the track, I'm on boost for
30 seconds, off for 5, on for 10 more, off for 2, on
for 5 off for 2, on for 20, off for 5 and then the
whole cycle repeats. During this, the car has an
average speed of 50 or 60 mph I'd guess, in 3rd to 5th
gear over 3500 RPM.

I am completely uncerned with how hot the car is after
it sits not running for 10 minutes. I'm concerned
about how well the intercooler itself keeps cool under
boost at speed. And with how quickly it cools down
off boost but still at speed. The stock intercooler
is terrible. And even the Dialynx and 2Bennett
intercoolers havn't been good enough. Granted, I'm a
20v running 21 PSI of boost, so it's not surprising
they're not enough.

What I'm wondering is if my problem is insufficient
airflow over the intercooler even at speed. If this
is the case, a fan might help. But some kickass
ducting at the front of the car would probably help
even more and wouldn't draw any current. My radiator
is totally fine. The fan never runs on track and the
water temps are way low. The gauge stays down in the
termostat opening range, never anywhere near the fan
operating range until I pull off track and idle down.

Anyway, if you're concerned about heat soak after
shutdown, fans are an interesting answer. But that's
not what I'm working on.

Cheers,
Rich
