[urq] NAC: Oil level in an oil pan

Yes, this used to be the case.
The crank was used to "splash" the bottom of the pistons to lubricate the
wrist pins.
In most of the new engines this is not necessary because of the oil
squirters.
Also oil in any form (including mist) causes drag on the crank, not large
but noticable (cause for knife edging of cranks for racing applications
etc.)
While back crank touching oil was the "normal" thing.

How come on small engine like a lawnmower the crank will engage the
oil??

Should not happen. That's why cars nowadays have windage trays. Don't
want
oil starvation or oil foaming. And if the crank is moving at any rate
and
oil level is such that it's touching, it will foam the oil. Not good.
That's why you're not supposed to overfill the oil!
