Hello All:

TO expand on MArtin's answer..

Most lawn mower types of engines don't have an oil pump, so they depend on
'splash' lubrication to do the job. On an old  Briggs & Stratton mower motor
that I once took apart, the cam timing gear had a 'dipper', that specifically
dipped a scoop of oil each revolution of the cam, and flung it around.
