- Odd, I took apart an earlier WR and found a pink slime in the intake. I
dont recall which cylinder however. Antifreeze related?

I think so. The car has been losing coolant at an increasing rate, smoking
sometimes and the exhaust smelt of burnt ethylene glycol.

I figure it as a leak directly into #1 inlet port area - somewhere above
the valve. #1 piston crown is as clean as a new one from Mahle. When the
valve is open, it goes into the cylinder. When the inlet valve is closed,
it goes back up the runner. Coolant is usually over atmospheric boiling
point anyway, but leaking into a vacuum area (e.g., on overrun) it would
effectively be "superheated" and would flash into vapour instantly. That's
a massive volume increase and the vacuum in the inlet manifold would drag
it straight up the runner.

If the runner is a bit cool, the coolant components would condense
selectively - perhaps the dye first.

I've measured the bore with my internal micrometer and it's close to new
spec at the top, but oval (within tolerance, still) at the bottom. The car
has been bodged at some point - everything is overtorqued and there are two
hellicoils in the head.

I'm going to have that port pressure tested tomorrow. I've found some new
specialist head repairers in Sheffield and this will bw a good test for
them.
