[urq] Changing Motor Mounts - Passenger Side Trick?? - Picsavailable

John,

Last time I had to do this job, I "destroyed" the right side mount with an
angle grinder and then I had access to unbolt the remnants.
When I asked this very list "How do I install the new mount now?", one comic
told me "Just run the angle grinder backwards..." :-))

Seriously, to torque the right side nut, many listers told me to buy an
offset wrench (16mm and 17mm)like this one
(http://content.sears.com/data/product_images/009/44366/00944366000-dlv.jpg)
and cut it in half. Granted the lever is a little weak, but it works. Then
next year, you will tackle the exhaust manifold studs replacement, and
you'll have a good access from above to torque it correctly. That's what
happened in my case anyway :-)

Cheers,
Louis-Alain
PS: the shortened 17mm wrench will be the tool to have when you'll want to
torque the a-arms bolts while the car is resting on its wheels... I kid you
not: it's the perfect tool!

Hey Bill. I can't believe that I typed "points" instead of "mounts".

I was finally able to get a 17mm combi on to it and loosen it to the point
that I was able to get a socket and ratchet in. I tried a wobbly but
couldn't get the right angle. Real PITA!!

The rear lower nut on the driver's side is no bargain either,

I've put in rubber mounts based on previous recommendations. Both sides
same height so no need for the spacer on the driver's side.

Passenger side was complete toast. I'm going to offer pics to anyone who is

interested.

Cheers
