[urq] LAC: US Industry

I've seen a few posts (mostly in other places) bewailing the outsourcing of jobs from the USA
to other - mostly Asian - countries.

Hmm.

I've just bought a product from an American company - specifically, a "Sealey Stylus
Penlight". It was probably made in the Far East somewhere, but it was US-branded and I regard
Sealey as a US company.

The thing is Magic on Legs. Terrific. Like a normal penlight, but thin enough (it uses AAAA
cells) to fit down a spark plug hole. Almost as good as the Aaron Bend-a-Lite Pro, but a lot
more robust and no requirement to buy a new $10 bulb every month. Great for the flywheel and
cam timing marks. I5 engine bays are tight enough and good directed light - especially in the
ur-quattro - is a real boon.

Yeah - you can also tape it to the stem of the Sealey mirror-on-a-stick and check out the
exhaust manifold studs.

But get this - the thing is downright wonderful (get one onto your Christmas list NOW!) but
nowhere does it say who made it. The object is devoid of all trace of a brand name. So in a
few years' time I'm going to reminisce about the purchase - am I going to think: "Sealey -
yeah, they make good stuff"?
