Interestingly, we over here would (nicely) refer to that as a kluge or
kludge: SLANG: a clumsey or inelegant solution to a problem
as opposed to the German definition of klug: clever or smart.

Another reason to buy from someone who: a. either has worked on the car and
has an idea of what it is or b. has had a competent shop or dealer service
the car since new.
