Greetings QPhile,

I now have enough committed participants to have this gear produced. If you did not receive an email indicating you were on the group purchase list, and want to be, then here is the information and you need to let me know, so I can get a total to the manufacturer.

This gear will be an exact replica of the original nylon gear for an '83 Ur Quattro, but made of brass. I am not sure what other years apply. The gear is being made out of brass and would not split as the nylon gears are prone to do.

The speedometer is VDO and has W=1600 (857 190 at bottom in tiny font) marked on the faceplate. This speedo also has the threaded metal attachment for the cable not the plastic quick connect found on some others. My US version speedo has the highest number as 140 MPH (240km/h) with marks that go to 155MPH (250km/h).

The brass gear being made will replace the worm driven pinion gear located on the end of the pinion shaft. This gear in turn drives the pinion shaft it is pressed onto. The pinion shaft in turn drives a gear located ajacent to and turns the enumerated gears that mark the vehicles mileage.

The total amount per gear will be $45 which would include average estimated shipping costs in the contenental USA. If outside the US, I will get the actual amounts prior to shipping. If you want more than one, take $5 off for the second gear, as it will not cost more to ship the second.

If you feel comfortable sending me the entire amount up front, that is certainly fine by me. Otherwise, I need to at least ask for a minimum deposit of $15 each up front so I am not left "holding the bag" so to speak.

I am happy to take your personal check. If you want to use Paypal, please include $2.50 extra for their charge. Using Paypal will in no way speed up the time to get these out.

Please send check or M.O. to:

The manufacturer advised me that he will not be able to start until first of March. With estimated turnaround time, I expect to get these shipped by mid-March. So be patient, as the guy does quality work and guarantees his product, but insists on not being rushed. I found another manufacturers rough estimate to be over (cough) $100 per gear with the low numbers being made, so I feel we are getting a fairly good deal.

I plan to include some BTDT instructions and tips with the gear, which I'll install in my speedo as soon as I get them. I've already fixed a few 4kq and CGT units, so know what to do and there is another gear that may need to be addressed in you unit at that time, but it does not break only it needs to be permanently affixed to the shaft. I will address all of this and more in the instructions.

Cheers!

Ben
