No, it's not as hard as you would think. :) The carpet is held to the
cushions with metal type staples wrapped around metal wires in the the
cushions. All you need to do is to remove these staples...(I used needle
nose pliers...) and fasten the new upolstry covers with plastic
fastners..(zip ties...) to the metal wires. You might have to cut and
fasten the ties if there is a wrinkle....(but not common...).
To get things tight underneath, just poke a few holes and thead a zip tie
through and around the seat frame...(this all makes sense if you look at it,
for awhile...)
While you at it, might as well re-place the cushions too...(they wear out
fast from friction...). Many early VW's have the same cushions as the 4kq
and are very common in the yards..(don't know about the UR's, but I think
there the same...)
