Your tires may appear to be new; but that does not necessarily mean they 
function at peak levels.  Really the only reason to buy snow tires is to 
steer or brake.  With a Q one can get moving with just about bald tires.
Trying to stop the mass of the car or change directions is the key.  The 
limits of a car with or without ABS is the coefficent of traction.  With 
great snow tires your ABS may not come on nearly as much.  Snow tires 
will even help cars with stability control.

I still drive type 89's; no ABS or stability control; so good tires are 
a must.
