[urq] 5ktq driveline into UrQ?

Ben,
The transmission is a direct swap, no changes to clutch, axles, etc. necessary. The only necessary change is to move the ball stud on the trans for the shift linkage to match the ur q trans. The electric speedo sender on the '87 5ktq screws right onto the transmission like the ur q's speedo cable, so that is a non-issue. The advantage to going to the 5ktq transmission is the newer center diff lock mechanism and possibly the the middle gear ratios. The rear 5ktq diff will not fit, but ur q rear diff never fail, so there really isn't a reason to swap it.

FWIW, even the later Torsen transmissions from '89-'90 200qs are easy swaps. All you have to do is swap over the speedo gear on the transmission. IME, even the cases are tapped for the early speedo gears, so it takes only minutes to swap over the necessary parts. As with the 5ktq transmission, all axles, etc. are compatible.

HTH!
