Hi Ben ... I have an '85Urq in which the previous owner replaced the broken plastic gear ( he didn't say what gear ) twice while he owned the car .. I am deffinitly interested in a brass replacement ! Thankyou for the effort !... Stephen Redford '85Urq US model ... PS, some help with the particulars of the install / replacement would also help, so I don't break stuff trying to figure out how to do it ...

That is a typical failure scenario and it is only a matter of time before it goes completely.
I am having brass gears made up. I did not formally announce any group purchase, but this is what I had in mind.
I hope to have a price not much more than the nylon gears. I am laying out some serious cash on doing this, and hope there will be sufficient interest.
Ben

Count me in. I have not verified if mine is split, but my odo seems to stop working quite often now. The only cure is to reset it and then be lucky if it goes for 50 miles before stopping. I haven't pulled it apart yet.
