[urq] gearbox

Boy , this becomes confusing .

I think there is consensus that the 200TQ transmissions
with or witthout torssen will fit the ur-q and that it's a bolt on
solution so to speak .

Here's what I'll do , I'm gonna take an AAJ gearbox
from a wrecked 200tq along to the wrecker and put it
next to the six speed cbl .

If it's main dimensions more or less match those of the
AAJ , I'll take it .

Will keep you all posted .

Pat

Steve,
I thought the S4 gear box would fit the 100, 200, 80/90 and ur-q without
chnaging the
ur-q drive shaft or tranny tail housing? Procon-10 housing may interfere
with ur-q
tunnel? I agree this would need the ur-q shifter mechanism modified (quattro
sport
in the UK have performed this shifter mechanism graft).

Pat,
There is no six speed gearbox that will fit your ur q without modifications.
The shift mechanism, mounts and driveshaft must be changed. You may also
have interference with the chassis that will need to be dealt with. If you
are going to go to a six speed, get one from an S2. The S2 gearbox has a
different tailhousing than the S4 box, as was as the shift plate and mounts
that you would need. You will also need the S2 driveshaft. As for the rear
diff, you will want one from an '84-'85 80/90q. That will have 4:11 final
drive as well the proper case to fit the ur q subframe and axles.

Any way you look at it, it will not be inexpensive to put a six speed
transmission in an ur q, even if the gearbox itself is only 350 Euro.

Steve

I've got an 1981 ur-q under restauration .
I've bought the car without engine and gearbox .
Stock gearbox was an UG 5 speed gearbox with
35/9 FDR .

The local wrecker has a six speed gearbox from an S4
and wants 350$ for it . Now this is a gearbox
with 37/9 FDR .

I think I can put this six speed in the car , on condition that I change
the rear diff to 37/9 .

The only problem is that I don't have the stock gearbox , so I can't compare
it's dimensions to the six speed . And I don't want to end up with a six
speed
that doesn't match the driveshafts and or shifting mechanism .

If somebody has ever done this swap , any comment appreciated .
Or if someone has a stock box lying around , and could take
some measurements that would help to .

Pat
