If those shirts tried to give him some crap I hope that he fed it right back
to them!  I always love to hear stories where good race car drivers are
allowed to use their discretion when operating vehicles on the track.  I'll
bet the passengers in the vehicle under Mr. Heywood's control were at far
less risk than if the shirts were out on the track driving ... 

I was fortunate to have been at the Monterey Historic Races the year that
Mercedes was the featured marque to see first hand when Juan Manuel Fangio
was driving his old race car around the track following one of the new MBz
SLs.  I happened to be right at the bridge at the bottom of the corkscrew
when the shirt driving the SL looped it ... he was hard on the throttle as
soon as the racing line cleared!  I think he was in his 70s at the time ...
