[urq] Value of urqs

I don't have any good input on the value. I haven't been watching them of late due to new job and lack of time; but... I notice that you rarely see them for sale in the Quattro Quarterly or Autoweek, where there use to be a few. Some probably show up in Hemmings, and Audi specialist dealers like Kent Anderson's Karquattro usually has one or two. With probably fewer than 500 urqs in North America making up the entire market, prices will be set by how desperate the buyer or the seller is, in conjunction with mileage and condition. I'm sure a lot of listers have a better idea of price than I do.

I don't think that $15K for a low mileage more or less original one (or one with quality mods) is out of the question, and there are a few really low-mileage ones (and perhaps ones with a "history") that have changed hands in the low 20Ks, but obviously most of them are goig for half that or less. An most owners aren't treating them as "classic" cars with classic insurance, etc., they're being treated as old model daily drivers. For all that we mutter about Audi, there is a higher percentage of North American urquatros on the road (relative to what came over here) than a whole lot of other 1983-1985 model year cars.(I'd speculate that that applies to BMW 2002s--which admittedly preceded the urqs by 10 year--and perhaps even mid-1980s Porsches)

Urq parts are getting scarce, but (like the BMWs--and I have a 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi in nice condition with 56K miles--five or so years ago, you could not get many OEM type parts for that vintage, now they're increasingly available at a reasonable price and at OEM or nearly so quality (and probably made in China or India), and of course there were a lot more BMWs of all models that came to the US.

With Audi's foray into China, the opportunity to get NLA parts made there is increasing. I guess we'll all see.

Meanwhile, as everybody observed, enjoy them....

Bill
