I struggled with this one for a VERY long time. I ended up using a 944
intercooler mounted vertically in front of the radiator. Sean Upchurch's
car has a Saab (model unknown) intercooler mounted in the front grill/core
support area. His IC temps are WAY higher than mine even though I have no
ducting to mine currently. I did toy with the idea of a custom Spearco
mounted in the front grill and getting rid of the center vertical post.
This was problematic from a cost standpoint and a hose routing standpoint.
Plus the grill would have had to been modified and the size was not as large
as the 944 cooler. The real reason is that the 944 cooler fell into my lap
for very little money. You could mount the stock IC in front of the
radiator and just have hoses running back and forth. Lag is minimal with
this set up. The real restrictions are in the exhaust trac. Sean's 3"
exhaust with an oversized kitty and the Saab intercooler still had less lag
than mine without a cooler and a 2 1/2" exhaust with stock kitty.

Subject: CGT MC Turbo intercooler options?
As I stare at the CGT getting ready for this undertaking (or was that the
undertaker?) - I am dumbfounded (or found dumb for taking this on) that
there really is no easy way to mount the stock MC intercooler. I kind of
knew that, but had read that it was possible.
So I need to find what can be done. I have read through some of the other
turbo conversion sites, and mainly need to know what can be done to fit an
intercooler - if need be procure a smaller one to fit. The great writeup
on: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/6172/4kcstq.html indicates
that an MC intercooler could be used, but I don't see how - that would be
great as I have several of these.
I must retain a working AC, so compressor deletion this is not an option,
although I will swap the compressor and alternator to use the MC setup.
If anyone knows which cars use smaller intercoolers that I might try to find
in local boneyard or other BTDT, even a source for aftermarket IC's LMK
please.
Ben
