Yeah, I'm working through my linkage problems too....the bushing on my 4kq
wore straight through. After looking at the bushing, I don't think it can be
replaced by pushing a new one in...(could be wrong on this...). I drove it
for a while this way and eventually bent the shift rod!!
Your best bet is to find one in the yards in good condition, but getting
them in and adjusting them correctly is the biggest PIA. I eventually gave
up on it and had the Audi shop do the adjustment.
Steven has good advice, if your going through the trouble of fixing the
linkage, might as well replace the slave cylinder, hose and clutch cylinder.
They are always on ebay for cheap...
Best of luck to you..
Justin

Subject: [urq] Tranny Linkage fix (help?)
Hey guys,
Finally getting around to fix (permanently) my tranny linkage. The ball on
the selector shaft lever (#33 on ETKA diagram) on top of the tranny came out
of the bushing (#27 on same diagram) that is connected to the linkage
leading to the actual shifter. The ball went back in very easily, however
the tranny has lots of slop and I don't trust it. I'd like to replace one,
the other, or both pieces. Any advice on which to replace and how? There
is very little room to work within the tranny tunnel, so getting the bushing
out, then pressing the new one in seems pretty difficult. Also, getting a
wrench on the selector shaft lever doesn't look all that easy, either. Any
BTDT or similar tips? Thanks a million!
Best regards,
Jim Fleischer
