Over the weekend I installed a hood vent over the passenger side of the
motor, hoping to solve an increasingly exasperating vapor-lock and starter
heat-soak problem on the old WX. Up to now I could manually turn on the injector
cooling fan and just let it run to stop the vapor-lock, but it didn't help the
starter heat-soak issue. The car runs proper temp, doesn't overheat, and all the
fans work to spec with the lower of the 2 optional sensors, and I have the
updated hole in the injector shroud to blow air on the fuel lines. That worked
last year.
Well drove it home this afternoon, let it sit in the garage for 15 minutes
and no joy! Vapor locked & heat-soaked, and it's only 45 degrees outside. If it
sits with the hood up for 10 minutes it fires right up. No point in arguing
that it isn't really vapor-lock, as I can hear the bubbles going back into the
tank when I run the pump. Vigorously! Almost like the tank is boiling.
Oh well, at least the vent "looks good".
