In MotorTrends Feb issue{broadening my horizons} Chevy
Colorado and GMC Canyon replacing the S-10 and Sonoma
will offer 3.5 liter inline 5's with 220 hp with 18/23
mpg. No listing on torque figures. It does pay homage
though. Stating that it needs to be revved aka 4kq to
get the most out of it. And doing this will result in
a distinctive Audi/Volvo howl. I doubt you could ever
mate the two. But, a 3.5 liter I-5 with a sporty
exhaust has got to sound good, to us at least. Acura
Vigor had a I-5, never driven one though. Wonder what
the specs were and performance times were? I gotta
think the 5 had to have benefits over a six hanging
out over the axle. Like the 1.8t VW's outhandling the
Vr6's. But the 5 doesn't sound as refined as the six
and Audi sure has played the posh over the sporty
angle. Adding over 200lbs to the new A4's and not
adjusting the 1.8t to compensate. I love the 5 in its
natural and turbocharged state and the fact it pushed
some of those pushrod V8's around is enough to think
it surely should be looked into for modern revisions. Todd
