Dear billybob,
Thanks for the excellent advice (after I already did the job), needed to
tap the spline out, didn't know the inner boot kit came with new bolts,
I was happy to see this as I picked up a few extra at the dealer and the
sob's changed the head of the bolt to a larger star pattern so the 10mm
star tool doesn't fit.....anyone else doing the job I recommend all
torqueing gets done with wheel on the ground (axle nut is spec'ed in the
manual but you need it for the inner cv bolts too)
Ps- bush is a wanker

Tap the joint towards the axel shaft first to releive any tension on the
snap ring to the groove on the half shaft, this step is very important
on the outer joint or the two fingers will just bend and you will never
get the joint off. and do not just peel the old boot out of the way, get
it out of the way completely, cut it off with a razor blade or side
cutters and clean the circlip area so you can see what you are doing.
And the light hammer taps? make sure the circlip is opened, some of
those CVJoint spline grip Mr. Axel rather tightly, if you are sure the
circlip is open and not bending, HIT the thing if it does not come off
with a light tap. And always buy the boot kit, never just the boot. Bill

Peel back the boot to expose the C.V. joint. From there, you can
access the
retaining clip on the inside/or outside of the C.V. joint depending on
whether it's the inner or outer C.V.. Using a retaining clip
pliers...(I
think that's the name for them...), hold open the clip while lightly
tapping
on the joint untill it slides off. With the joint off, from there you
can
slide on the new boot.
Install in the reverse order...
Good luck,
Justin
(I do have some old CV bolts if you want them...otherwise
Blaufergnugen
sells the boot kit, with hardware for like $25-30...)

What is the recommended procedure when servicing the half shafts &
replacing
boots? How is the shaft disassembled? Does anyone have any spare
halfshaft
bolts (10mm 12pt star bolts)??
