[urq] Ker components talk with Jim Furdyn

packley packley at verizon.net
Sat Nov 6 08:32:23 EST 2004

Jim and I are going to Aberdeen, MD today
as he is in town (Washington DC) and it is a beautiful
day to exercise my Porsche 930 Ruf for a quick trip
to check out my urq 20V conversion progress at New German Performance
and we are going to look at an S6 Avant for sale along the way, so
I will find out from him the "skinny" on these
parts availability as I would like one of those
rear spoilers for the urq which is about two months
from completion, engine installed, harness partially
converted, all peripheral stuff installed.

OEM spoilers seem to all fail eventually with perforations
allowing water to get into metal inner parts which rust
and ultimately expand and break the spoiler rubber.

Magnus' car and graphics are awesome, thanks for sharing
them with us. Perhaps he can translate the specific parts
we are looking for and confirm this is what we are looking for:

DU 81C-0401 1Spoilerstoßstange 305,--

If Jack is in the imaging business, he can make
some of this stuff available for us

Phil

Magnus,

I'm very impressed, the graphics look very professional. I'm assuming
they are cut vinyl, or something like that?
I work in the vehicle graphics industry and can vouch for your
installation from what I can see from the images, running the graphics
into the convex curve under the rear windows is a huge deal!

Where did you get that spoiler? My UrQ spoiler got some moisture inside
the foam and then it was frozen and exploded slowly. I've been messing
around with some materials to make a replacement, but am having trouble
with the limited attachment points along the sides of the rear lid. I'd
love to see what one of those costs to get into the US. I saw the link
to the KER Innovatech site and am assuming it is the number I've listed
below, 305 of what is this german?

Another cure for the wobbly balljoint is the judicious use (after
removal)
of a ball-peen hammer where it's wobbly. Did this on the 200q20v last?
year
and it took care of all the slop...

A while back I posted a call for help re: my poor gear shift in my WR.
Several of you gave me advice (Gerald Ward, Tony Lum, Ado Sigal to name
but
three) for which I am most grateful.
I finally got around to looking at it. It was the big ball joint on the
selector rod. It was sloppy and all over the place. Lucky for me I had a
spare from a coupe quattro that I broke and used as a donor car during
my
rebuild. The joint is fine on this and having fitted the whole rod the
shift
is much better. It's not perfect, I guess it needs some fine adjustment
but
it is loads better.
Thanks again for the advice.

All the best

Keith

I hope you have replaced your bump stops recently,
becausee you'll be needing them. As I recall H&Rs are
even lower than Eibachs and Eibachs and Konis are a
BAAAAAD combination for real-world driving in my
opinion. I was hitting the bump stops all the time on
moderately rough pavement before I switched shocks.
Before you do the work, spend the money for the
Bilsteins. Just my unsolicited $0.02.

Uh, am I to assume that I can get a full S1 body kit from
http://www.ker-innovatec.de/ ? It looks like they have the kit. With
some modification, would it fit? That's crazy! I can't read german,
but the very rough google translation makes it out like
that...someday...maybe....incredible.

Do they still make all this stuff?

Yes.. You can get a S1 bodykit from KER.
I was down in Germany visiting KER this summer.
I was collecting a Sportquattro kit in glassfibre for my projectcar.

But the KER S1 kit is only avalible in carbon fibre.
The prices on the KER site is in euro
1 euro = $1.2811 (at the moment)

Please check my friend Lars car here:
http://sportquattro.nu/project/lasse/index.html
He is working on a SWB S1 project.
But this body kit is in glassfibre, and are made in Sweden.

Another friend of mine Ola, has handbuilt a LWB S1 PP:

Guys, I did the system pressurize test too. I unhooked my ECU line and
plugged the nipple. For filling the system with air, I found that a
brake cleaner can cap will fit nicely providing you clamp it. I poked a
hole in can cap and used as a fitting a nipple from my Mity-Vac kit
sealed with blue RV. I think I used 10 lbs of air to find my leak. Can't
remember where it was, but it took a while to find it even though I
could hear it.
For the igloo to turbo hose, I took my old hose to my local NAPA, and
they matched it up with a Ford truck gas tank filler hose. $7 a foot.
The only issue with it is that its very stiff...not as flexible as the
factory hose.

 I am going
to use alloy subframe mounts,,, bad choice, the crack in the front
subframe
will be in the right front subframe outboard of the lower control arm
mounting, after you reinforce that area the crack will be??? the right
frame
rail? ruin your car? use the rubber mounts, avoid the crack remember
Star
Wars when you when younger? use the force Desmond! avoid the crack! Bill

Anton, sounds like a big + for just finding a good recommended locally
owned
exhaust shop( hang at you local raceway for suggestions) that will let
you
oversee installation for about $350.00 parts and labor. if they won't
let
you oversee, find another shop.after all, an URQ is not just a car.
Best,
Bill PS Stebro "service" obviously sucks wind sales should not promise
what
they can't deliver.wait they did deliver! they delivered a new
definition of
horrible service! SHEET ANTON! you have been STEBROED! YOUCH! prolly
worse
than the doctor standing behind you telling you to relax, more coconuts
too,
eh? Dan is probably smiling thinking the "hurts don't it" line.
