The injector fan comes on whenever the separate injector fan thermostat
switch, mounted on the metal shroud near the wastegate, closes. It will stay
on as long as the switch is closed and even when the ignition is off. The
switch on my car stuck on once and the battery drained! Take a look at the wiring
diagram in the red Bentley and it shows how it is wired. The fan is added to
avoid vapour lock in hot conditions primarily when the engine is off. With the
engine running normally, not just idling, there should be sufficient fuel flow
to provide cooling and prevent vapour lock but lock can still occur easily in
high ambient conditions with the engine off or under 'track' situations. Seems
unlikely to be the problem in this particular instance.
