Help needed re: gear shift adjustment (I think).
The car: 87 WR
The symptoms:
Usual really - poor gear change but the particular problem is the shift from 3rd to 4th. The required movement is almost a dog leg - back a bit, over to the left and back some more and it is not an easy shift.
Reverse is also rather awkward in that after coming to a halt I sometimes have to move the car forwards a tad to get reverse to engage. And sometimes that too needs some effort.
The change has never been good and certainly is no better (or worse for that matter) since the clutch was changed.
I have followed the instruction in the Bentley manual and can confirm I have at least the specified 5mm movement in 1st and 5th.
I don't however have the gauge "3048" for basic set up. Is there another way to do this i.e. does anyone have measurements that will get around not having access to the gauge?
Perhaps it is not the change and it is the box but I guess from the fat that the change to 4th requires a dog leg suggests selector rather than internal problems.
Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
Many thanks
Keith
