If you're talking of the transmission end of the linkage, then I know:
- yes it is a dealer-only thing.
- fortunately, parts are inexpensive.
- reinstalling job is not that easy.
What you need is only 3 clear-silicone bushings: (source TFA section 7,
sub section 11, page 56-00)
- 2x 803 711 279 E (if you don't want to replace the complete link 431 711
429 B which is expensive)
- 1x 431 711 221 (for the main rod).
But, because there is always a "but...", the small bushings are easy to
install on the small link, but a real PITA to reinstall on the tranny.
I ended heating them (in a bowl of hot water) before trying to slip them
over the nipples. It was cold outside but nonetheless...
And I still not succeed to replace the bigger one... it is still on my
bench as a reminder of my failure.
Maybe someone as a clue how to make this job a little easier?
Removing the lever 857 711 181 B from the transmission maybe?
Good luck!
Louis-Alain

[urq] shifter linkage rebuild kit
My shift linkage in the 83 UR needs to be replaced. Is this a stealership
only thing? Any part #s and or sources would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ken
