Dear listers,
A few years back I put together a group buy with Eric Fluhr. We worked
with Aelred when he was still at Dialynx.
The final cost including shipping from the UK worked out very reasonable
and we had around 15 q-lister participants. Although it was a nerve
wracking experience as cost was very sensitive to participation level
and we had some unknowns regarding the customs clearance charges.
We managed to get group buy participants to pair up so that two
radiators could be shipped together to one address. This kept the intra
US shipping costs down. There was some customs paperwork to clear but
nothing too serious.
With 15 takers we got the price down to $496 for the radiator.
To echo Andrew F's comments.. the 2Bennett radiator is a little
different, although originally I believe both companies sourced the
radiators from the same UK based company which I vaguely recall is based
in Tiptree, Essex. My guess is that 2Bennett found a US based
fabricator..no reason why Tiptree should corner the world market in TIG
welded parts eh?.
Anyway, you should also consider talking to Andrew at 2Bennet. He has
been known to be responsive to group buys and that would get you over
the main hassle of the UK to US shipping & customs charges.
Kind regards,
Paul.
