Hello Ben:

Something to check:

You have your amp mounter above the gas tank. Is it 'electrically' connected
to the body there? That *may* be a second ground conmnection. When I mounted
my amp, I mounted it on a small piece of plywood, bolted to the back deck,
with the amp mounted on the wood. This effectivly electrically isolates the
amp from any unintended grounds.

Same thing for the head unit: Can it find a ground through it's metal case
anywhere? Again, you want the only physical ground to be the ground wire, and
have it going to the same grounding point as the amp.

That is also why you have to make sure that the antena is not 'grounded' at
the antenna end. It already has a ground connection at the antenna connector
at the head end. If the antenna grounds to the car body at the antenna end
you have a 'second' ground for the head unit at the body end of the antenna
cable. (Easy enough to pull the antenna at the head unit to test though).

Good luck!
