Remember the story of the AC repair that ended in a no-compression engine ?
Well, Benoit called me today and said that the shop who did the AC work
will install new valves (ALL were bent...), repair the crankshaft keyway
(which was destroyed in the process) and do all the related work. Car will
be ready this week-end, to the amount of 1500$CDN. This includes the 500$
crankshaft repair which was handled by an external specialist hired by the
shop. It looks like the shop is keeping the bill "not too high", maybe
because they are sad from what happened.
Now, because the seller of the car said a new timing belt was installed
before the transaction, it looks like he is at fault. Or at least, the
mechanic who did the TB job for him. Benoit is trying to get him some
money, but he would be very lucky if it gets any, IMO. I suggested him to
ask a few questions (who did the job, do they know the damper pulley torque
figure, etc), and then offer him to share the bill somehow. If he is not
cooperative, then he might sue him (via the small claim's court) because
there was a flaw, a boddged job that leaded to a bigger expense.
Any comments to help him settle this to his advantage ?
Anyway, Benoit will not attend UPG 2005, but he looks interested in
UPG-2006 for sure ! His car is really nice, being it a 1984 Oceanic blue
metallic. Never seen one before.
