Steve,
I did not have to mod the end tanks on my 944T intercooler.
But that is only if you use the S2/RS2 turbo oil eturn pipe and matching
oil pan extension. RS2/S2 with A/C use that set up to clear the A/C
compressor.
It's amazing how much space is actually available with this setup.
I used stock WX turbo-IC hose, and on the IC outlet side I used a 135
degree silicone elbow into an S4/S6 MM hose and stright into the S2
intake.
Set up works very well, and again, no major fabrication/cutting or welding
required.
The oil return pipe and oil pan extension is not very expensive
(www.vagparts.com). I think I spent about $200 for the setup.. and that
includes all the parts and hoses (used 944t IC can be found for $150).
