... the engine proper is probably OK ... but given the comment about the
2500 RPM idle and the fact that the spark plug was grounding near the ISV
you may well have fried the circuit that drives the ISV. Depending on the
car, this means you may be in for a new ECU ... If the idle is still high
after restoring the spark plug wire, get the wiring diagram for the car and
see what drives the ISV (some call it AAR) ...

Hi, this morning I was working on the wife's Coupe and accidentally forgot
to put lead #3 back in place. When she returned after 80 km (highway)
shopping, she said there was something wrong with the car: it idles at
2500rpm !! When I popped the hood I saw the disconnected lead was "touching"
the block, shorting the idle stabilizer I guess.
Could this have damaged the engine somewhat, I.e. running on 4 cylinders and
the shorting lead for 80 km's doing 120 km/h?
Of course, unplugging the lead was my fault to begin with, but why women do
not stop engines when they rev 2500rpm at tickover and do not feel the
missing cylinder for 80 km's, is beyond me... Oh well, that's prob. why I
don't cook :-)
