[1] A bit of Americana: "Shoeless" Joe Jackson was one of the
greatest baseball players of his day.  Although there was no
evidence against him and his stats support his innocence, he
was permanently banned from the game for his alleged involvement
in the "Black Sox" scandal of 1919, where the Chicago White Sox
were suspected of throwing the World Series. According to legend,
a young boy walked up to Jackson and said, "Say it ain't so, Joe!"
