Yes, relative engine movement doesn't help... however every hose I've seen
fail has had the material "pulled" inwards.
Also, the plate does cause restriction, therefore neg pressure.

I've used parts of 5kt and other car (Saab) to make custom hose that allows
use of by-pass valve at same time.
Usual cost is in fraction of the cost of original, plus you get the very
needed by-pass valve.
