Guys-
thanks for all the congratulatory emails. Very nice.
We're still adjusting to our new life with a baby - but I still made time to work on the urq - when my wife went into labor I was finishing up a project (new turbo (IA RS2), new EM (IA RS2), fix small oil leak while in there, move boost gauge to door/a pillar, install 3-pack of gauges from '91 CQ, have upholsterer install heater pads in new to me '83 seats, install seat heater wiring)....anywy I still had as it turns out a good 6 hours of wrok to do. Glad to say that even with a newborn I was able to sneak into the garage during naps and get the car finished. woohoo
anyway- sorry for the ramble - hey give me a break I haven't posted in like 10 days - and we know I usually post like 10 times a day it seems..anyway while I was installing the boost gauge I had to remove the door panel - and again I was reminded of all the broken attachment points and the fact that door pockets are NLA. Here's how I fixed it. I had a spare portion of factory brown seat leather which of course matched my brown door pocket carpet. I cut some small strips, poked an "x" with a knife to be used as a screw hole, then Krazy glued the little leather strip to the door pocket. I then put a screw through the "x" and now the door pocket is totally secure. And you have to look pretty darn close to see what I did - especially considering they are so low - hidden under the pocket itself. My outermost, uppermost attachement point was totally missing so I used a bigger patch of leather, gluing it inside the pocket and wrapping it around creating a new mount. I must say it's nice to have a secure pocket - I can actually put stuff in there now..
hth-
