Hi All,
I don't know if this is typical for this list, but I am new and thought I
would introduce myself. My name is Marc, and I work as a software engineer for
Orvis (flyfishing equip, apparel etc.) in southern VT.
I have been a car guy most of my life and am happy to say that I finally have
the means (and garage!) to do some project vehicles. Now on to the cars:
'04 VW R32 - This was a 10th anniversery present for my wife (also a car
nut)
'84 VW GTI - Currently a work in progress. Have a rebuilt 2.0 16v from a
passat waiting to go in.
'90 90q20v - This was our first car together and is a good solid driver.
'96 Jeep Grand Cherokee - The workhorse and alternative daily driver to the 20v
'83 URq - The reason we have joined the list :) We purchased it yesterday from
Chris Semple @ force5auto.com. It was his personal car for a number of years,
and he finally gave in and sold it. It is lacking a drivetrain (no engine, no
quattro) and interior, so essentially it is a solid, rolling shell. Perfect
for a project! Hopefully I won't offend any purists, but here is a list of the
expected modifications (these will probably change on a continuous basis):
Paint: Repaint in original white. Re-apply factory decals
Engine: 20v Turbo tuned to 300+ hp
Quattro: Late 4000CS Quattro drive train?????
Transmission: ????
Brakes: Stop Tech - do they make a kit? Or Big reds
Seats: After market sport buckets (with reclining backs) - not sure which ones.
Dash: Late 4000CS Quattro
Carpets: undecided if we want them.
Roll Cage: Full roll cage professionally built for minimum intrusion. Tie in
Suspension mounts
and so on.
Essentially the idea is to make the car dynamically outperform the R32, as
well as being a reasonable street driver and fun track car. I am estimating
about $15k total for the build. Sound reasonable if I am doing 90% of the work
(everything but paint and cage)? Glad to meet all of you, and you will
probably be seeing me on the list quite often from here on out. Bye!
- Marc
