that stuff is there to better transfer heat to the heat sink. The module
will work without it, but you want it there for the long run. Ask for
dielectric grease at your FLAPS.

I just removed the ignition module and the bottom of it is coated with what
looks like
white lithium grease.  Should I clean this off and replace it dry or does
it serve some
sort of purpose?

The loaner ignition module that I have is clean on the bottom but there is
some evidence
around one of the screw holes that it had the same white goo on the bottom
at some point
previously.

Should I transfer some of the stuff to the "new" module before I install
it?
