Free advice that's worth every penny you pay for it: I've been told by
friends in the business that there's less hype these days about all the
formal conversion procedures -- replacing seals and O-rings, etc. -- and
that simply switching the receiver/dryer (evap can?), completely evacuating
the system and using the right, R134-compatible oil has yielded good,
trouble-free results. It seems that most of the early concerns about
conversion may have been overkill. On the other hand, if you have to
reassemble anyway, new seals ...

OK, I could use a bit of BTDT from folks. As some of you know, I am getting
transfered to Hawaii this summer and need to get the AC back in the UrQ.
It's
a tad muggy over there. I have all the parts of the old system, but the
compressor has seen better days. I have a "new" 134 compressor from a late
model BMW, but it has sepentine belt pully/clutch on it (not a V-belt). I
know
I need to get a new evap cannister and there are some seals to be replaced
as
well? What have folks done about replacement compressors? Can I put my old
clutch/pully on the new unit? Where can I buy new seals and evap can? Or,
does anyone have any slick ways to go about this? I have never really
messed
with AC before. Thanks

Eric Harten
