The second filter is mounted at an almost sideways angle next to the first.

Doesn't matter much about what oil you put for a leisurely 20 miles, some 
cheap multigrade should be fine.

I use full synthetic Audi/VW quantum synta gold, as do most other owners in 
the UK - don't know if you can get that from a dealer stateside though, or 
what the price would be...
