Non-French speaking friends, I think your options are limited...
Nonetheless, if images are worth a 1000 words, then head to
http://www.dakar.com/2005/fr/index.html, and click on the "IMAGES ET SONS"
and then on "Videos F2/F3" in the left menu: you'll see some amazing footage
no matter the language, many are self explanatory. You can also access the
past days by the top menu. Boy, the last special (Thursday, click on 7) was
660 km long (!!!) and after 16 hours of racing, more than half the pack (250
bikes, 165 cars-suvs and 70 BIG trucks) was still on the road!
Give yourself half an hour an see them all, you'll "feel" the Dakar, I
promise.
MAC: A special Audi was entered in the Dakar at the beginning of the
eighties, with a raised roof and some funny bull-bars, but 6-inches
Ronals!!! Search for the "Malardeau Quattro" on your favorite search engine.

BTW, here in Quebec, it's snowy, far far from the Mauritanian Desert
weather. But sometimes cold temps are worth the hassle: last night, I drove
250 km in a snowstorm, on back roads, just for the fun of it. With 530 watts
of front lighting reflecting on the snow, it was very rally-esque... I
brought a coworker, he was impressed by the stability and traction, things
we take for granted...
And tomorrow Saturday, I will join Brady Moffat at www.mecaglisse.com for a
complete day of ice lapping... Should be snowy, I will try to keep the car
between the snowbanks....
These "activities" are the payoff for the 2 or 3 nights (gross
understatement...) I worked on this car in 2004. I still think it's worth
it.
Happy sliding everybody,
Louis-Alain
