Guys,

The power Fuba used in many 4kqs and 5kcstqs can be made to work in the urq
if you're willing to sacrifice the power unit. This works especially well
if the fishing line in the mast is already broken. You remove the motor
cover and unwind the fish line. Now remove the 2 screws holding the mast to
the motor body. Remove the 4 phillips screws that attach the extension to
the amplifier section. This is a good time to clean up the dirt in the mast
with alchohol or goof-off. Cut whats left of the fish line flush to the
bottom of the mast. Now insert the mast and extend it all the way. Insert
a dowel stick or whatever you've got (I used one of those disposable
chopsticks!) to keep the mast from collapsing and cut it off flush to the
end. Attach a vacuum cap to the end of the amplifier and tie wrap in place.
You might need to make an adapter to connect the power lead to the car's
wiring. Now re-install and the antenna should work like it did before.

If you get lucky in the pick and pull you might even find a genuine coupe
antenna. The genuine antenna has a screw on cap as shown on Antenna World's
website.

If you're willing to move the mini-spare, you can even fit the power unit in
there. You still need to remove the extension. Then modify the case to
move the hex ground stud inside the motor's case to the other position (if
you look inside the case you'll see the other position-just drill the case
to allow the hex standoff to get thru to the outside). Then you need to
improvise a bracket to attach to the body (I believe the mounting holes are
already there) and bolt to the new grounding stud. The "real" short Fuba's
(NLA I think) amplifier section has the molded on bracket that screws
directly into the motor housing, but I found on my coupe GT (when the
amplifier section died) that the 4kq style amplifier section is still held
securely by the fender mount and the mounting bracket. I already had the
correct bracket because the coupe GT came with the Fuba mini antenna, but it
should be too hard to whip something up.
