Yes Martin, you are probably right! For some reason I was thinking the
car was silver ... Nick's car is Gobi Beige metallic ... and I see this
one is listed as being Gold ... it also has the very low VIN ... for
some reason I thought Nick's was an '82 ... but yes, I do believe this
was Nick's car.
Nick was fastidious about the mechanical upkeep of his car ... I know
for a fact the suspension and brakes are nearly new. The interior was
recently redone ... you can see from the pictures how good it looks.
The paint was getting pretty oxidized the last time I saw it ... and the
dash was pretty badly cracked ... Nick had redone the finish on the rear
wing too ... so exterior cosmetics are probably pretty good. Nick was
the only urq owner I knew who actually owned a car he bought new ... so,
this is a one owner car as well ...
Tying this back to the beginning of this thread ... it looks like Nick
wasn't getting any bites at his asking price (frankly, I wouldn't pay
what he was asking either) so he donated it for the tax write off.
Audi's lack of support shows up here in resale values as well ... think
about how much an '85 BMW M3 goes for in comparison ... in terms of
historical significance I think the ury has it hands down ... and the
cars look very similar ...
All that said ... unless you are talking about marques like Ferrari or
Porsche, every manufacturer eventually stops making parts for the older
models. If you look at popular "classic" cars here in the USA you will
find that in some part it is the fact that people have started making
reproductions of original parts that contributes to higher resale
values. The parts availability makes it possible for owners to maintain
their cars in good condition and keep the cars on the road and in
people's minds ...
