You MUST investigate this on the internet (http://www.quattroforum.com, http://www.quattroownersclub.com, http://www.audifans.com, http://www.isham_research.co.uk/quattro/brake_system.html, etc. but what I've been told you CAN'T use ATF in mineral based (green) systems, but you CAN use the green stuff in ATF systems after a good flush or even mix the two (I do not recommended). If you have the gold metal container, your original hydraulic system was designed for using ATF Dexron II. If the new rack is designed for the green mineral oil (plastic container), you will need to flush the whole system and switch to green, OR you will have to re-rebuild the rack with ATF seals and keep using ATF, otherwise the ATF will eat your new rack seals. You can also look at the reference stickers on the steering pump and other hydraulic parts, if they are blue or red: ATF, if green: VAG G002000. But please, do a thorough search before you continue...

a)whether the Green Mineral Based oil can be used to replace the Red ATF without having to replace any seals or other components
b) which oil is correct for the car ( it has the original tall metal reservoir if that helps any)
c)what the effects of running the Red instead of the Green are?
