Good point on the EM. That being said, be sure the WG is tightly fastened,
as it is pushing more exhaust gases through the down pipe at full boost.

Have you tried pressure testing the intake system? It usually hisses if you
have a boost leak, no ticking, but it's the only thing I can think of right
now...
Maybe double check your EM nuts - my front top one used to always back out -
and after a while I think it ticks.....

Subject: [urq] Sound under boost
This is the last question of the night...I swear.
So after swapping heads and getting everything back together, I now have a
slight "ticking" or "spraying" sound under full boost. It occurs ONLY under
full boost, and not at 5000 rpm with my foot halfway on the throttle.
I've got several mods to the car, such as an internally adjustable wastegate
and heavier spring. I've tightened all the spark plugs, I just went through
my exhaust (no change, including after I tightened a key junction), I'm
getting strong pull, and I haven't noticed anything else very out of the
ordinary.
I've never driven a turbo car before this one...could it just be the
wastegate kicking in and preventing overboost? I thought it might be
exhaust gases escaping at first; as I said above while fooling with the
exhaust wrap I tightened the turbo-downpipe junction which had loosened. I
don't see anything spraying inside the car, like oil or coolant, or fuel for
that matter. I have lost a small amount of oil since I changed it about
1000 miles or so ago. Could I have vacuum lines installed wrong, and maybe
that's throwing off my boost adjuster?
Does any of this sound familiar or make any sense to anybody? I'm at my
knowledge limit- I don't know what else to try...maybe turning down the
boost on the internal adjuster?
-Andrew
