You may to look at the back issues of Car and driver; they did a twin motor
CRX circa 84-86. Very nice project. For many reasons, they ended with twin
automatic drivetrains. I have this issue somewhere in my basement...
If memory serves, they double the HP with a minimal weight gain (20% ??).
The results were lukewarm. Performances were obviously better, but only
marginally because they started with two 75 HP stock engines. Handling was
challenging on the little 13" wheels. Braking was worse. And they had to be
creative with the exhaust and cooling systems.
Maybe a single front 5-row rad would be enough for both engines ?

WRT to trannys, I hate to say this but auto is the way to go; it would
allow some slippage between the axles and it would be 10 times easier to
control with twin parallel sticks, like in the multi-engined airplanes.
Auto trans without lock-up clutch converters are "load sensitive" devices
that would transmit just what power is needed without causing unwanted
jerks on throttle lift-off or during coasting. Think about it.

IMO, a single clutch cylinder would not work because:
a) displaced volume would be divided by 2, hence not enough travel to feed
both slaves, unless...
b) you install a bigger master cylinder (a brake MC maybe?) then you'll
need a bodybuilder left leg to operate it.
And shift linkage will be a huge challenge to make from scratch.

For inspiration, you can look at some mid-engined cars like the Fiero (FWD
Citation drivetrain in the back of the car) and the MR2 (Corrolla
drivetrain).

Good luck!

Absolutely TT 2.7 times 2 would be the ultimate... Actually twin RS6 motors
would be the absolute!

I was leaning towards the earlier V6 because they were FWD and relatively
inexpensive, maybe project total less than $10k. I always liked that
squared body style and the V6 has good grunt.

I am pretty serious about the project, I've been just trying to come up
with
the right chassis, motor, car(s) to do it with...

I was also comtemplating the idea of having one stick and one auto. The
stick would operate normally and auto, once in drive, the gas pedal would
now be trigger controlled on the steering wheel or stick. Anyways, fun
dreaming, if I take this on I'm going to go stick all the way.

The 90 has a hydraulic clutch? Would one clutch master cylinder run 2
clutches?

I'm pretty sure the shift linkage is mechanical, so it would be a matter of
routing it to the main lever.

Cooling... Maybe a rear radiator with side vents/scoops for drawing in air.

Ideas?
