Hi David,
Don't sell the car for this, I have a solution.
1- Remove the window switches from the car, open them and clean the
internal contacts. Easy stuff even for a beginner. Careful though, it is
spring loaded inside.
2- Replace the OEM switch connector and the wiring connector under the
console. For this, I used the flat 4-wires connectors usually found on
trailer wiring. Cheap, small, vibration and weather resistant, and they are
color coded (the usual brown/yellow/green/black).
3- Remove the door panels, remove the window regulators, and lube them
carefully (both tracks and wires) with spray-on automotive grease. You
can't do it in situ since the track is hidden in the door. If you are not
too nervous, you can even open the motor's gearbox with a common Phillips
screwdriver and lube the gears inside. Careful again, lots of tension on
the wires but the drum should stay there even with the cover removed.
4- Clean or replace all the connectors from the door harness to the motor.
5- Don't waste time adding a supplemental ground point from the motor's
body to the dashboard metal structure, it won't help: The motor has only 2
wires that are inverted by the switch to reverse polarity for up or down
movement. So all current flow is from the fusebox to the switches to the
motor.
I did all this to my right door (mainly because I replaced a broken cable),
and this window is much faster than the driver's side (some will say that
this is not an achievement, the left one being so slow...).
Good luck !
