[urq] Acrylic Light covers for early coupe and UrQ

I had a set of "Chemcast" acrylic covers made for my UrQuattro. This
material is essentially the same as Lucite or Plexiglass, but different
company. These covers are to make the car more aerodynamic and with the
right lights installed, is a good alternative to Eurolights and far less
expensive while retaining the older look which many prefer.
My set is now mounted and looks great - actually they are practically
invisible. They provide the aerodynamics of Eurolights at much less cost
and far easier to install. I had been searching for something like this for
awhile, but not finding anything with a perfect fit, took it upon myself to
have these fabbed and definately glad I did even with the high initial cost.
Since there was significant investment in manufacturing the first set, as a
mold had to be fabricated, it would be worth it to replicate these for much
less than what I paid, so I am able to organize a group purchase to have
these done in quantity. Again the major investment was in having a mold
formed, so there won't be much difference if I have ten sets made or 50 or
???, and they will be less expensive than the first set. There may be some
economics in larger numbers, but being a small shop, batches of 10 or so
will likely work just fine, and therefore won't be any cutoff date to get
orders in.
I don't have an exact price, but they should be less than $170 a set and
possibly as low as $125. I can put together a kit with instructions on how
to install these, but basically they are a flush fit directly into the
recess of the light bezels and a recommended glue/sealant is used to hold
them in place. They could be removed with a little effort, but will not
come apart, and when finished looks similar to what most manufacturers
install on their lights today.
So I'm trying to see what interest there is in these and will follow up to
coordinate a G.P. I know there has been some scepticism about group
purchases lately, especially since the UrQ Sport replica hood G.P. has
dragged on for so long and I personally did not have that great of an
experience coordinating one for speedo gears some time back. In this case,
the manufacturer is local to me, a marine plastics specialist who does
custom work on not just boats, but also some neat car and bike stuff too.
He is willing to do this, and is fairly timely in accomplishing these sort
of tasks. Again, the big part is already done which was to have a mold made
to form the plastic which gets heated in an oven to assume its final shape.
So he can now crank these out fairly quickly, and has a second set of bezels
I provided for fit checks, etc. and is ready to make these when I tell him
how many I need.
I'll be posting some pictures soon on my website - ironically, the only time
you can really see what they are is from the side - looking straight into
the car you can't see these unless they have been inundated with bugs or
mud. They clean right up and with proper care will last indefinately and
any scratches can be polished right out.
So let me know if you think you'd want a set - they fit the earlier Coupe
and Ur Quattro as well as the 4000 quattro.
