I think the alternator may be on the opposite side on the AAN too.

As for the rods, I was pretty sure that I'd heard that some of the AAN
engines came with forged rods and some came with cast, whereas all of
the 3B engines came with forged, but I may have had that backwards.

"Best donor car" is tough to quantify.  Are you planning on just using
the long block and going EFI for engine management, or actually
transferring all of the harnesses and the ECU from a 20v car?  If
you're planning on using the ECU, it's my opinion that the 3B would be
easier.  It may end up being more about what's available and for what
price though.
