Hi all,
After much cleaning, blasting, scrubbing, my Fuchs wheels are now ready for
the final stage, refinishing.
Initially, I wanted the "sand-cast" look, that is bare flat aluminum with a
clear coat. That will not happen. There is a reason almost all the wheels
are silver-painted; bare aluminum will always look "dirty", even after a
careful blasting, that's the nature of the metal. Clear coat would just
highlight these imperfections.
Now, the next logical choice would be OEM refinishing, that is Zermatt
silver with polished (or anodized) accents on the lip and the spokes
ridges. Exactly like Martin's P. did on his. Not that I wanted to discuss
colors, but why stick with Zermatt silver ? In fact, this was Brady's idea;
my car now has his Pearl-colored Fuchs, and they look OK. But when we tried
his white Compomotives, that was really cool.
In fact, there are other combinations that could look great (I think...) on
a Mars red car like mine:
- Gloss black center with a polished (or silver painted) lip. That is the
classical Porsche's Fuchs look, à la 911 or 944.
- Gun metal, dark charcoal, bronze or gold center and a polished lip. What
dark metallic color would be great on a Mars red car ?
- Full white, no accents, like the rally wheels on the A2 cars of the
period.
- Mars red center, polished lip, à la Gulf Ford GT40. Might look better on
a baby blue car...:-)
- Zebra-cloth pattern on the spokes, brown lip...
What do you think of these possibilities ?
Anybody has a picture of a non-standard colored Fuchs ?
Or a picture of a Mars red car with non-standard colored wheels ?
I'd like to have your point of view before I make a mistake...
Louis-Alain
