You can definitely use an airbox with a filter. Converting to EFI does 
away with the need for the metering plate or a MAF (at least 034- some 
use a MAF) Most people just throw on a cone filter to the turbo for 
simplicity's sake, but I'm sure a modified stock airbox or a home-made 
one with a panel filter would be perfectly fine. Most people need the 
room, or don't mind the noise.
